There is a difference between Digital Marketing and Digital Advertising

The digital world gets significantly more complicated as you dive a little further into the weeds.  As with traditional marketing, there is a difference between digital MARKETING and digital ADVERTISING.  From our point of view, all advertising is marketing but not all marketing is advertising.  We consider Marketing to be the umbrella under which many forms of advertising fall.

Examples of Digital Marketing:

  • Display Advertising (programmatic, single site, ROS or high impact)

  • Online Video Advertising (pre-roll, in-stream, OTT)

  • Social Media – both free and paid (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc)

  • Email Marketing

  • Search Engine Optimization

  • Search (Google, Bing)

  • Presence Management (listings, directories)

  • Reputation Intelligence

  • Content Marketing (blogging, sponsored content)

  • Promotions (contests, surveys, quizzes)

Examples of Digital Advertising (one component of Digital Marketing)

  • Single site buys (direct relationship with a single website)

  • Targeted Programmatic (display & video)

  • OTT Video

  • Search (Google Ads/Bing Ads)

  • YouTube

  • Social Media Advertising (paid ads on FB/Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.)
